Misaligned and gapped teeth can leave you feeling insecure about your smile. Invisalign clear aligners offer drastic cosmetic results while being more discreet than traditional metal braces.
If you are looking for a comfortable orthodontic alternative to braces, Nordhus Dentistry offers Invisalign treatments to patients in Wichita, KS...
Enjoy the Unique Benefits of Invisalign Aligners
Invisalign continues to lead the clear aligner industry in terms of reliability. In 2013, the company released SmartTrack material. The patented multi-layer polymer delivers gentle and continuous force for more accurate results.
Traditional braces rely on metal brackets that use wire to hold teeth together. Aligner trays deliver continual gentle pressure that is spread out over the surface of a tooth. The result, according to many of our Wichita patients, is a much more comfortable and pleasant treatment experience.
Invisalign would not be a popular orthodontic appliance company if it did not deliver proven results. The advanced orthodontic technology takes the guesswork out of straightening teeth. Once your aligners arrive at our Wichita dental practice, Dr. Byron J. Nordhus, who has practiced dentistry for more than 20 years, will know exactly how long your treatment timeline will be.
No Dietary Restrictions
Beyond delivering reliable and comfortable results, aligners allow patients to undergo treatment without dietary restrictions. Traditional braces restrict patients from eating certain sweet and sticky foods. A removable aligner allows patients to address crooked teeth without refraining from your favorite foods - within reason.
A Photo-Friendly Treatment
Clear braces also offer a discreet alternative to metal braces. In our photogenic culture, photos and selfies are an omnipresent part of daily life. This can make orthodontic treatments especially embarrassing for teens. Invisalign offers a discreet alternative because the aligners are effectively invisible.
If you have a teenager, we also offer Invisalign Teen. The state-of-the-art aligner system has a built-in button that tells parents if the teenager has worn the aligner for the required 22 hours per day.

How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign is an advanced orthodontic treatment that uses special, transparent aligners to gradually straighten the teeth into better alignment. The trays are manufactured using advanced computer technology after your teeth have been mapped in great detail. Each tray is numbered, with the first aligner tray closely matching your pre-treatment smile and each set becoming gradually straighter. With the application of each new aligner tray, individual teeth are nudged and rotated into better alignment. Following your treatment, you will be given a special retainer to maintain your results, which can be worn at night.
Aligners Can Correct a Wide Range of Issues
Gaps in smiles are a common source of embarrassment. Your customized aligner treatment plan is designed to reposition your teeth to eliminate any gaps in your smile.
Dental crowding is not just a cosmetic issue. When incisors, canines, and molars are packed in tightly, using floss can be difficult. This can lead to gum disease and even tooth decay. Invisalign aligners eliminate crowding so you can brush and floss more easily, and enjoy a healthier smile.
Often, the resting position of the jaws is determined by the position of your molars. If you have a mid underbite or overbite, Invisalign can sometimes eliminate minor jaw alignment problems.
Beyond delivering proven cosmetic results, the clear aligner can address jaw pain that results from poor teeth alignment (malocclusion). If you suffer from jaw discomfort or other jaw-related conditions, ask Dr. Nordhus about the benefits of undergoing orthodontic treatments.
Are You a Candidate for Invisalign?
Desire an Attractive Smile
Many patients who express interest in Invisalign hope for a more attractive smile. Once you have allowed our doctor to straighten your teeth, you can enjoy a noticeably more aesthetic smile.
Want Conservative Treatment
Alternatives to Invisalign, like porcelain veneers, often require the removal of natural tooth structure. In contrast, these clear aligners preserve your existing tooth structure for a natural-looking smile.
Prefer Aligners to Braces
Many of our Wichita patients seek Invisalign because the removable aligners offer a comfortable alternative to metal wires and braces.
Are in Good Oral Health
As with any cosmetic treatment, patients should be in good overall health and free of gum disease. Candidates should be willing to maintain good oral hygiene habits throughout their treatment by brushing and using floss.
Am I Too Old for Invisalign Treatments?
Age is not a barrier to candidacy for Invisalign. Invisalign treatments can be enjoyed at any age. Many of our patients who undergo this cosmetic treatment are teenagers or senior citizens.

An Overview of the Invisalign Treatment
Once you have been found to be a candidate for Invisalign treatments, Dr. Nordhus will schedule a time for you to visit our Wichita dental practice. During your first visit, we will take a mold of your smile using digital iTero scan, instead of traditional gooey impressions. From this, your custom clear aligners can be manufactured. After a few weeks, your aligner trays will arrive at our office.
Dr. Nordhus will give you advice on how to place and use the orthodontic treatment. Periodic visits to our office will be made to check up on your progress. It is important that patients adhere to the 22-hour compliance rule while maintaining good oral hygiene habits. Failure to wear the trays for 22 hours a day may result in poor cosmetic outcomes.
Side effects are rare. Some patients may experience slight discomfort in the hours after placing a new aligner tray. To avoid unnecessary discomfort, we recommend placing new trays before bed so you can sleep off the feeling of oral pressure.
When you have completed your orthodontic treatment, you will be given a custom retainer that should be worn every night. The best way to maintain your cosmetic results is to schedule twice-a-year visits to our dental practice while maintaining good oral hygiene habits and brushing regularly.
Highly Rated by Our Patients
Dr. Byron Nordhus and his team are excellent communicators. They routinely tell you what they are doing and why. Often, Dr. Nordhus calls personally to follow-up with me a day or two after dental work. They appear to have up-to-date dental equipment. Their schedule seems to have some padding in it allowing them to provide friendly, personal service; they don't rush to complete your procedure and start the next one. Of course, this level of service costs more to provide, and their prices do seem to be slightly higher than my previous dentist. Overall very pleased.
Nordhus Dentistry is, by far, the absolute best at what they do! Everyone on their staff is very personable and does a wonderful job explaining procedures and setting expectations. I have a child that ALWAYS had a great deal of anxiety about dental appointments ... but not at Nordhus! Not only have they come alongside him to give him support through teeth removal, x-rays and cleanings, but Dr. Nordhus has personally called us the next day to see how we're doing after our visit. THAT'S CUSTOMER SERVICE! In my son's own words ... "I like them. They're really nice." Music to a mama's ears!
Potential Risks of Procedure
Under the professional guidance of Dr. Nordhus, clear aligner treatments are completely safe. We highly discourage patients from using DIY or mail-order orthodontic treatments, which do not come with the benefit of oversight from a trained dentist.
