Invisalign for a Twisted Tooth By Byron J Nordhus D.D.S. on February 24, 2020

Invisalign® corrects common malocclusion problems by applying gentle and consistent pressure to the teeth and jaw. What sets Invisalign apart from traditional braces is the fact that it is a completely metal-free system.

A twisted tooth is just one of the many malocclusion problems that is likely to be treatable with Invisalign aligners. Those in the West Wichita and Wichita, KS area who are considering Invisalign for a twisted tooth can learn more about the procedure from Dr. Byron J. Nordhus.

How Effective Is Invisalign?

Many people mistakenly believe that Invisalign treatment is only effective on a very select set of malocclusion problems. Although there are certain cases when traditional orthodontic treatment is necessary, Invisalign can correct the most common malocclusion problems just as effectively as braces.

Patients often ask Dr. Nordhus if Invisalign is effective enough to treat a twisted tooth. Invisalign has been shown to be able to rotate a tooth by more than 20 degrees, so it is often an ideal solution for a twisted tooth. Dr. Nordhus can perform a thorough evaluation to determine if Invisalign is an appropriate treatment method for each patient’s unique circumstances.

The Treatment Process

If our Wichita patients are ideal candidates for Invisalign, they can expect treatment that is timely, effective, and convenient. The treatment process should take roughly the same amount of time that would be required for traditional braces. On average, a twisted tooth can be straightened in about 12 months.

At the start of Invisalign treatment, Dr. Nordhus will provide patients with their first several sets of aligner trays. He will test the fit of the first set of aligners, go over treatment instructions, and answer any additional questions that the patient may have. Provided the aligners fit properly, treatment will begin immediately.

Patients should wear provided aligners for a minimum of 20 to 22 hours per day. Essentially, the aligners should only be removed when the patient is drinking, eating, or brushing their teeth.

Approximately every two weeks, patients will switch to a new set of aligners. Each set of aligners fits slightly differently so that the teeth continue to receive adequate pressure. Patients will continue this pattern until treatment is complete.

Benefits of Invisalign

Our Wichita patients often prefer Invisalign for a twisted tooth over braces because of the many benefits that are unique to this treatment technique:

  • Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible
  • Many patients find Invisalign’s metal-free aligners to be far more comfortable than braces
  • Invisalign aligners can be removed for easy brushing and flossing
  • New SmartTrack material offers more accurate treatment results
