Dentist

A lot of times you pick a career field and you don't know what you're getting into until you get into it. But I still wanted to be in business for myself. I had a genuine heart for being able to care for and take care of people. I wanted to be something that people weren't getting in other places. My hometown dentist growing up was a good role model for me and I just appreciated his personality and just his positive attitude and outlook towards healthcare and dentistry in particular. And that was attractive to me to be able to do something like that. I'll tell you what I enjoy about being a dentist is just the interaction with the patients. Some of the stories or some of the feelings my patients have shared with me have been really touching. And some of them are really emotional. They've struggled with maybe with their bite or with their smile for all their life and they have finally had the means or have been able to make the decision and follow through with having some treatment done. And there'll be days that I come home at the end of the day and we're having dinner at home with the family. I'll share with my kids or my wife that, "Oh, gosh. I made a patient cry today." And they are all concerned about, "What did you do, Dad?" I said, "Well, we give them this and they were so overjoyed that they just had tears of joy or tears of happiness." So those are the fun things that make it worthwhile what I do.
