Dental Crowns

Description

At Nordhus Dentistry, we can place an all-ceramic crown to repair a tooth that has been compromised due to physical trauma or decay. Dental crowns are placed over a tooth that has been treated to add strength and support so that patients can avoid the need for extraction. A dental crown from Dr. Nordhus will look and feel like a natural tooth and can provide years of service with proper care and regular checkups.

Dental crown is a restorative procedure that part of the tooth is trimmed down around the sides, and the top, and the crown just in circles and covers that tooth to give it some strength and support. It just helps give longevity to the tooth and ties that together. If there is any cracks or fracture lines, it will keep the tooth in the mouth and functioning for a longer time. The majority of the crowns that we place today are. . .they have some kind of zirconium component to them. We haven't placed a crown with any metal component in quite some time. Candidates for dental crowns are patients that may have large old existing restorations that have recurrent decay, or fracture lines, or cracks, and the crown or the tooth is needing the crown to be restored to its original form and function that can't always be done with the next bigger size filling. The other reason we use crowns is on teeth that are fractured or broken. And, again, it restores the original form and function of the tooth. Dental crowns can last a long time if they're cared for, if the bite's correct, if things aren't fractured or broken. And dental crowns are like your natural teeth. They just. . .they take time and care and regular checkups.
